CSUN’s women’s softball team (9-15) ended its two game skid by defeating the ninth-ranked UCLA Bruins (18-3) 3-2 Wednesday, on a walk off two-run home run to right field by junior outfielder Tanna Bindi in their home opener.
“I felt good all game. I was seeing good pitching and seeing the ball,” Bindi said, who was 1 for 3 for the game with two RBI’s, including her first career home run. “She just left (it) there and I took my swing and went with it….I saw the ball really well today. I just made a small adjust of seeing the ball out front and just stayed calm.”
Bindi’s home run was one of four hits in the game for Northidge, coming after redshirt sophomore first baseman Jennifer Tyler reached first on a hit by pitch.

The CSUN men’s volleyball team, lead by four returning seniors, a mixture of juniors and sophomores and 10 newcomers, looks to improve upon last season’s playoff team.
With the season already underway, the Matadors have their eyes set on contending for a national championship.
“We always want to make the playoffs and the ultimate goal is to win a national championship,” said head coach Jeff Campbell. “I think the key to us winning is that we really have to have a seasoned team that’s efficient, especially at passing and serving.”

Women's Basketball: Bright spots sprinkled Throughout inconsistent CSUN season

Entering the season, the Matadors had their eyes set on claiming the Big West Championship and a March Madness tournament berth.
“Our expectations are the same every year, which is to be the best team we can possibly be at the end of the season,” said head coach Jason Flowers. “I do not think that I did a good enough job to make that happen this year. I need to do a better a job (to) make sure we are (playing) more consistent in our peak for a longer period of time.”
Northridge’s lack of consistent play led them to an overall 16-16 record and a 9-9 one in Big West play, which ranked them sixth in the conference. Coach Flowers felt that what contributed to the inconsistency was the team’s inexperience and change of personnel.
“Our kids have played in a lot of games but it does not change the fact that they are sophomores and there are certain things you gain with experience,” Flowers said. “Obviously, with (freshman guard Marta) Masoni leaving in the heart of the season, we struggled with things and (it affected) we what did.”

In a season filled with promise, the CSUN men’s volleyball team (9-15 MPSF, 11-15 overall) collapsed down the stretch as they failed to win the one match out of their last five needed to clinch a spot in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament.
“I think it was our attitude and effort was a key reason for the last few games of the year,” said sophomore setter Travis Magorien who led the Matadors with 884 assists and ranked 12th in the conference. “Midway through the season we were as high as fourth (in the country) but we just became content and let it slip away.”
The Matadors had an up and down season, winning six of their first eight games but finished losing nine out of their last 10 matches, including their last five road matches.
